'Oz' Counterparts

'Oz' Counterparts

'Against All Oz' can't be written off as the ubiquitous flashback episode, because it's just too hilarious to see the main cast portray such flipsides to their characters. I don't know if the show was trying to do any correlations to 'Wizard of Oz' characters, but if so, then John is like the Cowardly Lion, Dr. Lincoln needs to have a heart, and Dickie definitely needs some brains.

Hayes

Played by:
Dean Paul Martin
Seen in episode:
15
Occupation:
Scientist

This alternate Billy's characteristics are far removed from the real Billy. He's meek and softspoken, and he's not nearly as outgoing or as confident. He's still a scientist at Humanidyne, but in a subordinate position. Through hazy dream memories of the main reality, he discovered and applied the real Billy's leadership skills.

Dr. Lincoln

Played by:
Kevin Peter Hall
Seen in episode:
15
Occupation:
Scientist

Dr. Lincoln is the head of the research team here, and he lets it be known. He's self-centered, mean, and testy — very unlike El. Other differences are: he's good at basketball, he's a ladies' man, and, oh yeah, he can't shrink.

Dickie

Played by:
Max Wright
Seen in episode:
15
Occupation:
Janitor

Dickie is rude, lazy, slovenly, and lecherous; he's riotously unsavory. Dick would be apoplectic if Billy were ever to describe his counterpart to him.

Miss Nance

Played by:
Diane Civita
Seen in episode:
15
Occupation:
Administrator

This Miss Nance is not flaky or lovably eccentric at all. She's prim and runs Humanidyne in a totalitarian manner.

John

Played by:
Mark Thomas Miller
Seen in episode:
15
Occupation:
Electrician

John is so different from Johnny B. He's an asthmatic supernerd who could rewire a stereo system in his sleep. He has trouble being around girls, and he's a big scaredy-cat. Interestingly, he's still into music (but doesn't like rock 'n' roll) and still deals with electricity, so he and Johnny B do have some similarities.

Gloria

Played by:
Courteney Cox
Seen in episode:
15
Occupation:
Head of Security

As head of security, this Gloria takes absolutely no nonsense. Just like the real Gloria, it wouldn't be smart to make her mad. The alternate Billy thinks her overbearing nature is only to compensate for the lack of respect she gets. She displays no telekinetic power, and has a thick Southern accent.

Humanidyne

Seen in episode:
15

The Lab, N.I.T. (Nuclear Investigation Team?)

Seen in episode:
15

This lab is clearly nowhere near the comfortable, chaotic H.I.T. lab. It gets forty million dollars a year worth of funding - a lot more than the real lab gets.
